DAY. 2 After breakfast we make a city tour. Cebu City is an older city than Manila and has the harbor with the most activities in the country. The story goes that once the beaches were so bright and long that the visitors by boat had to wade through the water to come on land. This gave its original name Sugbo which means "walking over water". The Chinese, Cambodians and Arabs visited the place in the fifteenth century. The Spanish conqueror Ferdinand Magellan arrived here in the year 1521. In that year he planted a big wooden cross at the place where the first filipino's were baptized as Christians. Now this place become a big tourist attraction. On our city tour we visit this cross and also the old Santa Niño Church. We also visit the colorful Carbon Market and follow our way to the old Spanish Fort San Pedro. In Casa Gorordo we can see old pieces of art. Then we go to the idyllic Beverly Hills and its Chinese Taoist Temple. From the Tops Garden we enjoy a magnificent view over the city of Cebu. |
